A sobering thought

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

Last night, as I was out for my evening stroll, I spotted a critter trundling along near a neighbor's house. It had the shape of an armadillo, a long, ratty tail, a hunchback, and a pointy white face. A possum, and the fattest one I've ever seen.

This gave me pause. Could it be, as many of you have suggested, that my sock thief isn't a cat at all??

Somehow a possum is just a bit creepier to me than a sweet little kitty cat.

I don't like that idea at all. They can be mean, especially if they have babies they are protecting.
Ugggh!

That would explain the lack of interest in catnip toys. None of my cats would choose socks over catnip, although they might go for both.

    Awww!

I used to volunteer at a Wildlife Rescue center, and the opossums were my favorite little guys! One lady had been raising to two baby opossums as if they were housecats. Animal Control of course made her surrender them, and since the two sisters had grown up around people and were so tame they couldn't be released. So they became "ambassadors" and went to classrooms and festivals to help raise awareness about how to share your habitat with wildlife. I always signed up for Human Interaction duty with those two, they were so smart and cute! I can totally see an opossum playing tricks with your socks at night. They looove cat food :)

WOW, I never thought of that...don't creep out too much, my dh loves all animals (within reason) and he has taught me that they arent' as creepy as they may seem! But you might want to set a camera or, me, I would have dh wait up to watch and see what it is...and he would gladly do it too! You REALLY have my curosity up now! It might explain why the catnip mouse never seemed to entice it! emoticon

OMG!! This would make the story totally different--no more cute fun; now, creepy, scary!!! Might want to use a video camera to see who the culprit really is!
