Anyone out there have a Fitbit? Could you suggest a model to buy?

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

This is one of those rare blogs that I don't have the title thought out well in advance and I am just letting my "fingers do the talking".

Life has been good lately. I've managed to force myself into my walking routine again and I have to say I am feeling much better because of it. Yesterday the hounds and I walked 5km over uneven terrain around two ponds. I packed a lunch for them (milkbones), three containers of water, and an apple. I think they were more excited to get bits of apple than they were the dog treats which just goes to show, "doggy food is good but human food must be awesome". Maddy was extremely tired this morning and when John went to harness him up for their morning jaunt Maddy turned and jumped back into our bed with his harness and leash still attached! Too cute!

This was the longest hike Ginger has been on and she was a real trooper. I had to keep her on her lead because of her love of running free, chasing rabbits, and getting so lost she gets afraid. She has come such a long way and has gained about four pounds, most of which is muscle in her legs.

I NEED to get back in the saddle with Spark. So this walking is my way of doing it. I am still drinking my water and have decided to have chocolate one night a week instead of everynight. Last night was my first night chocolate free! I am also thinking about asking Santa Claus for a FitBit. Not sure where I can actually buy one in Canada as ordering from the U.S. is a bit of a pain with duty, etc. I've been on their website and it seems there are the FitBit Zip, the One and the Ultra. Any suggestions?

I am also working on my rewards for reaching certain goals. I have trouble with those because we usually buy what we need. I think my rewards are going to have to be "worth it" so to speak. I have oodles of airmiles and am thinking a trip will be my ultimate "reward" but to where I don't know. I want to go to Australia BUT we have the dogs to think about. Hmmmm.

So, there it is, I just went back and came up with a title. I hope you are all well and healthy!
xo Susan

I love your blog, especially about your dogs. My daughter has rescued three dogs too. One was a bull mastiff who died at age 13 well beyond his prognosis. Most of my blogs are off the cuff because I don't have time to think ahead. I've thought about a FitBit but not convinced it will help me yet since I have so far to go with my fitness that I will make progress yet without it. They sound wonderful for when I'm down the road a bit. Until then, I'm taking in the comments from other people about which to choose.

Labrador must be beautiful! I think about going to the Maritimes. It is a dream vacation. You must have oodles of miles if you are considering Australia!

I have the fitbit ultra and like it. I wear it on the strap of my bra so that I don't lose it. It's less trouble to maintain than a pedometer and much more accurate.

If you get to Australia let me know. We might be able to meet as we go there most years because my husband is an Aussie!

So glad you are out walking again - even in this cold! You are a real trooper! I am sure someone who works the rescue circuit with you would love to puppy sit. I would come up there and do it, if I had the cash to get there... being unemployed and disabled sucks!

I do not have a FitBit, but I do hope they work better than my bottom of the line pedometer! Since I have less free fat shaking on my body, sometimes it only counts every 5 steps or something. Makes me walk 21 laps around my yard instead of the 12-14 laps a 5k should take. That was a miserable day, and I won't let that happen again.

I woke up in a particularly warm bed today. I knew max was there because I could feel the heat along one side of my body, but then I realized Jackson was in my bed as well! He never sleeps in my bed, or anyone else's! I guess he's finally decided he doesn't want to be the "independent teenager" he's been playing for so long! I think it was the bath that did it. I got ALL the dirt off of him, all the way down to his skin which I think Aunt Di misses sometimes. He has never felt so good to pet! And now he must be cold under all that hair!

Hope you get good feedback on the FitBit. I want one but won't get one until I reach my goal weight. And if you go to Australia, please take tons of photos!

Love you, my dear! And stay warm!!

I'm going to watch what your friends say about the Fitbit. If you get one, let me know if it works for you!

I have the fitbit ultra ... Haven't used it yet because I need to reach 191lbs -- I'm positive I'll be breaking it open this weekend lol.

A trip would be an awesome reward! -- My husband and I are going to be taking our honeymoon when I reach my goal weight since we didn't take one yet.
Walking is a great way to get back into the swing of thing :)

Susan, way to go with your walking! I've been struggling with what I put in my mouth, but since I'm keeping up with my fitness program, I haven't gained anything back yet.

Love the idea of a trip! Hmmm, I'd pick someplace warm and sunny. Surely there's someone you trust to help with the dogs for a week?

    Keep up the good work!
