My 4 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with a heart murmur. OMG PANIC! Like any mother, my mind went to the worst possible scenarios, then jumped off the deep end. Today I took her in to the pediatric cardiologist.
They did an EKG, examined her, and used a sonogram to look at her heart and take a bunch of measurements. After a while, the doctor came in and gave me what has to be the best medical news I've gotten since she was first diagnosed with Arthritis. Her heart is totally normal.
So, apparently there are perfectly benign heart murmurs that are the heart's equivalent to air coming out of a cooler vent. Perfectly functioning and absolutely normal. She has what's called Still's Murmurs or innocent murmurs. I couldn't be happier!
