Eating like a Bandit

Tuesday, November 13, 2012

Although I am not a binge eater, I have long admired author Geneen Roth's take on overeating and addiction. She used to binge. Now, she will have that one perfect piece of chocolate a day, really savouring it and making it last. As she so eloquently puts it, nothing tastes as good as that first bite.

Today I was having a non-fat latte at a very well-known chocolatier shop. I had bought myself a small dark round of chocolate with fruits and nuts on it. I decided maybe I should buy a couple as holiday gifts. So, I took a bite of my chocolate. It was not the fact that I took a bite, it was the sneaky urgency which I did it with. Honestly, I snuck it out of its paper cover like I was some sort of thief, shoved it quickly in my mouth and felt embarrassed when I felt someone's eyes on me doing it! When will I get evolved like Geneen Roth and just have one perfect bite of chocolate and damn the torpedos?. I would like to eat like nobody is watching!

Nothing beats Chocolate. Take small bites and savor each one! Enjoy the taste and texture. I can make a Sees chocolate last for 4 tiny bites and I enjoy each one. It is not a lot, but for special occasions nothing is quite as satisfying!
As long as you are eating the rest of your healthy diet, I don't see anything wrong with the occasional splurge. You are doing so well, a reward was earned! emoticon

It is a difficult thing to get past for sure. But realizing what you want is the first step in achieving it!

You recognize what you need to work on so there's half the battle. You will learn from this and in time you will conquer this.

Maybe you need a 'pause' button... then ask am I eating this because I am hungry or because I want to savour the moment...
