From time to time we all lose focus. For me, this spring I started a new sport. I am now participating in the Heavy Athletics of Scottish Highland Games. For those of you who don't know what that is, It is a bunch of people, wearing kilts, throwing things. Rocks, weights, trees, on occasion anchors, kegs, farmer's walks, etc. We tend to eat, drink and be merry while we're at it.
So I added this to my world this spring as on a trial basis. I kept my normal workout routine and added practices, competitions, fun days. I also had to add some calories/protein to my tracker (I track on myfitnesspal as it is WAY easier!!).
The season ended in September. Most of the people that I practice with were nursing injuries, travelling or just taking a break. So I stopped practicing. But I didn't stop eating. And then the gym cut back on classes. And I didn't stop eating. And then another excuse happened. Yadda yadda yadda.
The pants I was so proud of fitting into started to get a little snugger. I could tell, I had a serious backslide happening.
7 pounds... total fat. F^@%!! I've worked too hard to get this crap off my body to start backsliding now. REFOCUS!!
I keep saying it and it will always be true:
The Highland Games (HG) have become a priority for me. In order for me to not just participate, but compete, I need to get stronger. I have now started with a trainer who is not only a wonderful Personal Trainer, but also a Professional HG athlete. Many of the higher level atheletes are LARGE. Even the women. I'm glad that my trainer focuses on overall health and fitness, not just getting bigger to throw further. He may not be the best, but he's probably one of the fittest people on the field.
I have a new workout routine. I have begun using muscles I forgot existed. Right now, my abs feel like I went a few rounds in the boxing ring. But I'm moving forward
Here are a few pics that are inspiration for me and where I want to go.
I've met her!! Adriane is an amazing athelete, and a great person, who has been training for HG as well as Olympics for most of her life... Pretty good inspiration there!!
Now I know how difficult (probably impossible!!) it will be to get THAT fit. But it gives me somewhere to go. A direction to aim for.
I will succeed!
Eat Less. Move More.
