I'm not a fan of the cold so I decided to do an indoor workout today. I dusted off my old step bench, 5 lbs dumbbells, and a workout video and got to stepping. It was difficult because I'm not very coordinated and my upper body strength is practically nonexistent, but I made it through by modifying where needed.
I like workout videos because they're a great way to measure fitness level increases. The move I couldn't do today I may be able to do tomorrow and I love that feeling. Unfortunately my favorite videos have awful music, so I just turn the volume down and follow the cues the best I can while I wear my iPod.
I had wanted to try a yoga video I have as well, but my arms feel like noodles from my workout. I may do it later, or I'll see what tomorrow looks like.
I was thinking earlier about what an "ideal" fitness level looks like to me. Realistically? I'd like to be able to walk a mile without pain, climb stairs without sucking wind, carry my groceries from the car without needing a handcart. That's all well and good, but what about the fantasy? What kind of fitness accomplishments would I love to make? Run a marathon. Bench press my weight. Do 100 push-ups military style. I want someone to be able to LOOK at me and know that I could kick their ass at any challenge. That's what I see when I think of optimal physical strength. I understand the need for setting reachable - and sustainable - goals, but you have to admit the fantasy is a helluva lot more fun. What's your fitness fantasy?
