It's amazing what they can do today

Monday, November 12, 2012

It's been a long, long day but long story short my dad came thru his surgery very well.

We had to get up at 4 am to make sure my parents were up -- they had to check in at 5:30. We got up, dressed & headed over to the hospital.

They took him to surgery around 8 & the operation was supposed to take around 4 hrs. We sat in the very cold waiting room, watching as doctors kept coming to tell families results . . . noon passed . . . 1 pm . . . 2 pm . . . we were all getting very worried. A little before 2:30 the surgeon's assistant came out to tell us the surgery went very well. The surgeon came out a little later to tell us the same.

We got lunch (yes, I by then I was really hungry) & then went to see my father (for anyone reading this that doesn't know me, my 86 yr old father had brain surgery today). He was awake . . . he was talking . . . he was moving his legs.

And I am simply amazed. And thankful.

My sisters kids are coming to visit (one goes to school here; the other works here) & hopefully he'll be much more aware when we see him next.

Good news. When I was nursing, I often told my people's families that the waiting was going to be much harder for them than the surgery (heart) was for the patient. I know that they rarely believed me until they had all been through it. It's the not knowing and feeling of helplessness. Now for the patient, the hard part comes later. I am glad to hear that your dad is a "strong-willed" read stubborn gentleman...He's going to need that fight to get through the recovery...being told what he must do...and what he must not...that will be a challenge. LOL

Now, you will be able to get back to the business of your taper and when you're running I know you'll be running off the stress this has been.

    Blessings to you and yours.
