Sharing an Article - Stop Overextending Yourself!

Monday, November 12, 2012

Hi SparkFriends -

It's a familiar feeling for some of us, come the holidays. In preparation for the "Busy Season," I thought this article was helpful.

-please-others-6-simple-tips/

My favorite passage:
I began to wake up to the idea that I actually do have choices. I can make decisions based on my preferences and needs instead of a sense of obligation.

I have a choice about how I respond to others’ demands. A choice about how I react when the tsunami of items on my to-do list threatens to overwhelm me. A choice about saying, “yes” to one more volunteer project or saying “thanks, but not now.”

Enjoy!

Great article and it really did make sense, didn't it?

Thanks for sharing. I'm pretty good with not overwhelming myself. I've learned how to say "no" a while back during therapy sessions. But it's nice to have a reminder every now and then, especially when the holidays are upon us.

Sometimes the most giving answer is to say, "No."

It is difficult to say no especially but we do have to learn to do it sometimes.

I put the skids on the nonstop go-go-go years ago. I always got sick from all the work from the holidays. I found myself trying to give everyone the perfect meal, gift, etc. I was buying for 25 to 30 people and some of them were so rude that they told me they didn't like the gift instead of just taking it in for an exchange or refund. I decided then that I was so done. I started saying no and almost everyone got bent out of shape. I decided they could be in a bad mood or I could and I chose them. I only buy for my hubby, son, and dad now plus a token gift for 3 businesses who help me a lot. I am so much happier.

Thanks! I heard the stop "shoulding" on yourself just last April at a women's retreat and I've been trying to follow that one since. More good information here.

It is a tough season for a lot of people, for many different reasons. Learning to say no is a hard one--good luck!
