Day 19 Whole30 Grass fed ground beef JERKY in dehydrator

Monday, November 12, 2012

Have two pounds of beef in dehydrator. We made two pounds of flank steak last week and ate it all. So good, a little strong maybe, used a recipe that called for mixing with lime juice after draining. Well that takes about 4 hours in the dehydrator and the ground beef is expected to take more than double!

Got it in early this AM. You mix powder salt, pepper..... in and let it set 24 hours, did that yesterday.

Well, awaiting results and have to launder my work clothes.
Blessings to the Veterans, my family is full of them.
Hugs,
Dayle

    Thanks,
Have never tried pemmican.
Usually use no salt and only eat what I make. This has 1 teaspoon / pound so that is more than I usually have in food, but not eating a pound, snack, food for trip, and cut up goes in my nut mixture. The grass fed one I was buying has sugar. This is now done and tastes great without sugar.
We were at the Skyfall movie and let it dehydrate on high 155 for 8 hours. DH says could have been done in 6, I meant to turn it down to 135-45 after a couple hours, but forgot.
I bought many pounds of Sommers organic 1/4 pounders frozen from Costco. Got about 3 cubic feet of them individually wrapped in freezer.
I searched a long time and found a ranch 3 miles away that sell, but appear to be a middleman.
Found a farmer up north that sells with deposit on Internet, bal in cash in person for delivery in neighboring town. Bought 1/2 pork and 1/4 beef from him.
Turned out to be a good deal.
Hugs

Do you get your organic foods and grass fed meat locally? Have you ever ordered online?

Does the jerky make your sodium count high?

You are so creative have you ever tried making pemmican?

Here is a recipe, you had asked about ground meat recipes. You use that for this. I have eaten this but never made it. It to me would be a great healthy snack.
