Good Morning ..
This is a wonderful scripture Hebrews12: 1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

A awesome Christian who I look up to .. Said so many are in fear mode .. I agree with her ..We need to put fear out of our minds over and over God said Fear not
we are the ones with Faith .. I know if you have been listening to the news you see things crashing .. But that is when we need to grid up and Faith up .. We have
to lean on our God ... and ask Jesus to strengthen us .. HE will see us thru .. Read your word more and pray more talk to Jesus he hears you .. comfort yourself
and know soon and very soon we will be with Jesus ... please pray for our Country and Today again I remind you to pray for the people who are having things hit
them right and left I have been there and its a hard place and if you don't have our Jesus it is harder im sure .. you are Blessed today if you have a roof and food
and water .. and if your loved ones are ok .. So lets praise God but not forget our brothers and sisters who don't have that .. I love you all ..again Thank you to the
Men and Women who have fought for this blessed country .. we cant say it enough .. .I would encourage you to look at this a good friend sent it .. so im not sure
who I would give to for people im researching .. but I will share it ...

That was insightful info, about some organizations. We know many use professionals to raise funds, but now I ask what percentage goes to the actual charity emoticon cause.

Great blog and I've always loved that scripture. You are so right about being aware of who you are giving to. I remember after 9/11 so many people donated and months later the people who were in need still didn't get any of it. I worked for a non profit for a long time that served senior citizens and we got a very small amount of United Way funding (like $1500 a year total). They started requiring the agencies that were funded in this area (we are a small town) to go to their board meetings. I was at one of their budget meetings locally when I found out the local budget was something like $70,000 a year and only $17,000 actual went to local agencies. The rest went for overhead. The following year I refused to apply for their grant and said to my staff we could do our own fundraiser to raise the money and maybe more, instead of having to support all their activities and see so little go back into the community. They started asking us to write a detailed report about how the money had helped us, and had a lot of things they wanted included for the $1500 we got. That's understandable. But then when I was at a board meeting and they discussed reading the reports and finally decided that since we had to write them they ought to read them, without much enthusiasm, I was really turned off too. That was my first real eye opening to some of the huge charitable groups. I went to a workshop one time that was led by the State Attorney's office. They said that when anyone groups try to solicit funds from you, ask them what percentage of the money actually goes directly to services. By law they have to tell you. There is no law saying how much they have to put directly into services, but they do have to disclose the information. One group they mentioned was for missing and exploited kids from one state that only 10% actually went to trying to help families or find kids. The other 90% went to overhead. That's legal, but we have a right to know and then if we decide we do it based on actual knowledge. I want my money to go where it will actually do the most good!!

I get calls to donate goods frequently, and VVA and Salvation Army are the two I support.

As to Goodwill, Mark Curran is neither Owner or CEO. The CEO is Jim Gibbons. I am not sure about the other organizations listed but the Goodwill information is wrong.

Thank you for the list! We usually limit most of our giving to church missions which includes a homeless shelter downtown. emoticon But we do give other places as well.

Thanks for your thoughts on fear. Today is just one of those days I'm plagued by them. Sometimes we just need to remember that is not where God wants our hearts!
