I was blessed to be married to a WWII veteran for 19 years. Every day he breathed on this Earth, he worked to help others and shared his stories of how he overcame the plethora of challenges, the life lessons he learned, and how much he appreciated life each and every day. My students adored him and were in constant awe of his worth ethic and stamina. Every day that passes, and especially on special days of remembrance like today, I am reminded how much I am blessed that he was (and still is) such an incredible part of my world.
I am forever grateful for my husband and for the men and women who have served in the past and have chosen to serve now and in the future. Courage, Honor and Valor are are priceless characteristics that often go unrecognized. The men and women who have given (and continue to give) us our freedom personify those characteristics and deserve both our recognition and respect.
I will never hesitate to stop a person in uniform and thank them by saying "God Bless you for your service!"
