Mountains and Canyons

Sunday, November 11, 2012

It's a 3-day weekend for me so I decided to hike both yesterday and today and will still have a chore-day left tomorrow (oh joy! :))
We had marvelous sunny weather both days, though a bit on the cold side, with frost on both mornings.

About 40 miles north from where I live you can hike the mountains.

We even found a little patch of fall amongst our mostly always green trees.

About 60 miles southeast from my house you can hike the canyons. A much different world. Much more exposed, but temps were cool enough to enjoy the sun.

A bit of poison oak

And here is a place holder for the beautiful waterfall which we were going to see. But --- no water... (Last winter was extremely dry so water is scarce everywhere.) Pretty nonetheless.

Total for both days about 30 miles.

Your pictures just make me sigh.....with pleasure and a bit of envy. There are beautiful areas where I live but the woods are so thick you'd have to hack a trail through them and even then it would be tough going. Guess I'll just have to hike vicariously! emoticon

Two great venues for hiking. I'd say skip the chore day and hike again on Monday!
