Do I get myself into these scrapes?
Tomorrow evening I have to do a 'Hustings'. So, people in the audience can throw up whatever relevant questions they wish, and I, along with the other candidates, have to come up with a coherent answer. I might be asked, about my opinion on the hospital development, the rail link, the plans for the top end of the town, the concreting over of a set of allotments, moving the market. Closing night clubs in the area earlier. Police crime commissioners, the development of the main rail station, housing, Council tax, or maybe new supermarkets being built.
Then again, people might want to talk about dog poo, anti social behaviour. late night revellers using our front gardens and alley ways as loo's, cyclists on the pavement, parking, rubbish collection, and street lights.
Then again, they might want to talk about schools in the area - and the lack of places, or doctors and dentists and general lack of infrastructure. Or outsourcing - back room Police functions, some of the hospital services, street cleaning and refuse collection. Oh and Council tax. Bet they want to talk about Council tax. Not surprising given we have the highest council tax in the whole county.
And I'm meant to know all this stuff in detail, plus have ready answers? I don't think so. Like lambs to the slaughter we will be. Quite right too really. Candidates and elected representatives, should be held accountable. I'm just rather wishing I wasn't one of said 'candidates' just at the moment. Especially as there is no chance of my winning anyway. Oh OK, OK, there is always a chance. But realistically, it isn't going to happen.
Still, it will be an 'experience' eh? And a learning curve.
Bright blessings.
