Starting to feel a bit better

Sunday, November 11, 2012

Well...this pregnancy has definitely been different than my first. I can tell you one thing for certain, though - I am NEVER getting a flu shot again! I don't usually get them, I have a pretty good immune system as it is. I got one during my first pregnancy because of being a teacher, so I'm considered "high risk" for the flu, and got sick, didn't get one for the last 3 years, and got one this year because of my pregnancy, and I was sick for almost an ENTIRE week! I started feeling feverish and achy last Saturday, was up all night that night puking and was nauseated basically until Thursday night. Finally then I had a bit of an appetite and started feeling almost human. I didn't exercise at all this week. Of course it was the worst week EVER to get sick. Once a year we have an arts festival at our school that ends up raising a bunch of money for our department. That was Thursday night, so I was at school for 15 hours on Thursday. The prep work that goes into that night is overly exhausting, so I was definitely pretty done by the time the event was over.

Anyway, I'm human again. I have more of an appetite, still not for the things I'm supposed to eat per the dietician's recommendations but at least I'm eating. And I'm holding my weight steady, which I'm happy with at this point. I'm going back to the gym tomorrow morning. I cooked 2 meals this weekend! And I have leftovers that will last us at least through tomorrow. My husband has been awesomely supportive of everything - watching Max when I need breaks, making sure that I'm getting the sleep I need and the food baby is craving. He's generally a pretty supportive guy, but I think he's really excited about having another kid and the stage that Max is at right now is really helping.

So overall in life things are pretty good. Even though I'm not eating the foods I'm supposed to be eating I'm still not tracking - just trying to listen to my body. It's harder with this thing growing inside of me, but at least it's growing! I feel blessed in that department. My uterus is definitely stretching today, I feel like I've done about 50 crunches, but don't worry I haven't.

That's interesting...I had a flu shot, and then had a few days of a headache followed by what sort of seemed like a very mild cold. I hadn't connected these symptoms with the flu shot until I read this blog. Glad you're feeling better!

Glad you're on the mend! Flu shots always impact me negatively, too... even though the nurses always swear they "don't." LOL. Ugh! Oh, and a belated congratulations, by the way!!!

Wow. Sorry to hear you were sick. I too am a teacher and have never gotten a flu shot even though everyone say's I should. I have heard too many people say that they too have become sick after getting one and I wonder is it really worth all that. Congrats on your little one. I am glad to hear you are feeling better and wish you all the best during this pregnancy!

Glad you are feeling better. So many doctors do recommend those flu shots more for the baby than for yourself take it as one of those things that is best for the baby and like morning sickness, it to shall pass
