Dogs bark...

Sunday, November 11, 2012

The dogs next door get a little noisy, so one day somebody called animal control to complain. When the officers arrived, I heard my neighbor tell them, "Hey, dogs bark. It's human nature."

Your post reminded me of a Billy Collins' poem:

Another Reason Why I Don't Keep A Gun In The House

The neighbors' dog will not stop barking.
He is barking the same high, rhythmic bark
that he barks every time they leave the house.
They must switch him on on their way out.

The neighbors' dog will not stop barking.
I close all the windows in the house
and put on a Beethoven symphony full blast
but I can still hear him muffled under the music,
    barking, barking, barking,

and now I can see him sitting in the orchestra,
his head raised confidently as if Beethoven
had included a part for barking dog.

When the record finally ends he is still barking,
sitting there in the oboe section barking,
his eyes fixed on the conductor who is
    entreating him with his baton

while the other musicians listen in respectful
silence to the famous barking dog solo,
that endless coda that first established
    Beethoven as an innovative genius.

Yeah, and human owners are expected to at least try to teach their dogs when to bark and when not to bark. Sorry your neighbor is falling down on the job.

I don't mind dogs barking either, but as I know most of your blogs are funny, I re-read it and discovered the "dogs" barking versus "human" nature. BWA HA HA HA!!!! Nice. Keep up the awesome work!

I'm sorry. sorry I must agree, dogs do bark. It doesn't bother me when they bark, I know some dogs do bark excessively. But I can thank the Lord Honestly that the one time my dogs did, it was shortly after my brain surgery. I didn't feel well and asked my husband to help me to bed, as the surgery had left me totally paralyzed on my right side. Well he closed the door so I could get some rest, after a couple of hours he and the kids were watching tv and the dogs went berzerk. Thank God they wouldn't be quiet no matter how much they were yelled at. They even tried to put them outside and low and behold they tried to tear the door down to get back inside. As it turned out my husband let them back in they then went to the bedroom door and tried to tear it down. I was having a grand mal seizure and not breathing. My family had to call 911 and hold the dogs in the guest bath so the emt's could tend to me and take me to the hospital. So I love to hear those Dogs... emoticon
