My First Race

Sunday, November 11, 2012

I am not a racer. I am starting to run ....for fun and weight loss. I walked a 5k a year ago in 48 min really hustling! I have recently started running 3 x a week with the help of a running coach to help me prevent the ITB (Ilio Tibial Band Syndrome) that stopped me running a year ago. I love my running and I haven't been having any pain in the 6 weeks the running coach has been helping me. I have a friend who has pancreatic cancer. A brave strong woman who is using her time left by enjoying every bit of life she can. She climbed a 14 thousand foot mountain after training all summer. She ran on the treadmill while she was training for this hike and started enjoying running. When she found out I was running she was really excited and asked me to do a small race with her. How could I say no? So yesterday we ran the Longmont Turkey Trot 2 mile fun run. She had never run outside, so we ran the course together ahead of the race and found we could both run the race with her finishing several minutes ahead of me. Woo Hoo! We were good to go.

So Saturday we did it!

Start of race

Becky and I running together for a short period.

Me finishing

A job well done and a lot of fun!

I finished the 2 miles in 27 min 52 seconds. 4th place in my 7 women age group!

We are now looking at the Rudolph Dash 5K on Dec 1st. Maybe I am a racer!

Life is good.

To My Racer Friend DaisyBell: This is a pretty darn uplifting post! Congrats to you, and tell your friend we are behind her all the way. She does not deserve that cancer. Have fun on the Rudolph Dash.
