I’ve been thinking for about a little over a year now that maybe it’s time that I start a garden.
Well, unfortunately, where I live, it’s not exactly that time of year yet, but it’s on my mind.
You see, the other day I won a gardening tool set in a sale/raffle type fundraiser, and that has put gardening back on my mind.
It first entered my mind when I had reached my highest weight which was approximately the same time that a family member of mine was diagnosed with cancer.
Health was on my mind for sure. I had to take control of my own health, and I was thinking that maybe if I did something like gardening, I could maybe have a few veggies left over to share with my family to keep them healthy too.
I poured over a seed catalogue for some time trying to pick out the vegetables and fruits I would grow.
I knew where I would grow them, there’s a community garden that’s been on my mind for a while.
Well, as fate would have it, I’ve moved about 10 miles closer to that community garden last summer and now I have a gardening tool set.
It must be coming time for me to actually try my hand at growing my own produce. I have some months ahead of me to plan the vegetables I’ll grow and pour over more seed catalogues.
I’ve never been much good at caring for plants though. I guess there comes a time when everyone has to learn a new skill. Maybe the next planting season will be mine.
I don’t know if you’ve ever tried a homegrown tomato before, but the last one I tried was so delicious, it far outshined the tomatoes I am constantly purchasing at the local grocery store. It had flavor, incredible flavor. Maybe it was a special breed of tomato, I’ll have to ask the person who grew it in their own garden.
In any case, I can’t think that this could be anything but a good thing for me. It will get me outside, it will have me more active than I usually am during the summer instead me vegging out in front of the A/C and TV.
It will also provide some good nutrition for me to track here on Spark.
I think it’s fate! The next growing season is my season to start growing things.
