Sparkfriends, my schedule has been STRANGE the last couple of weeks!
Last week, Zumba was cancelled because of Halloween, so I did some dancing on my own but didn't get to go to class. Which always makes the next week back soooo hard, and usually means I won't lose weight that week (EXACTLY what happened!)
I ran on Thursday, and made it 1.85 miles before the sun started to set. Finished that run in 18 minutes -- and set a new record for myself!!
Saturday I was supposed to run the Trick or Treat virtual race, but I slipped on some wet leaves less than half a mile in and twisted my ankle. Went home, and spent most of Saturday and Sunday with my ankle elevated and iced...and it was feeling A LOT better by Monday morning!
Hit Zumba with a vengeance this week....did one 60-min class Monday and two 60-min classes on Wednesday. GREAT workouts!!
Thursday I set a new record for myself when I ran 4.5 miles in just under 50 minutes. Not only because it was the first time I broke the 11-min/mile barrier for runs over 4 miles (first time EVER that I averaged less than 11:45/mile!) but also because it was the first time EVER that I ran the whole thing. I was soooo proud of myself the first time that I ran most of that route, but I still walked up the two steepest hills and the ramp to the pedestrian bridge. But Thursday, I ran it all!!!!
Towards the end of the run, my ankle started hurting again, so I slowed down a little, but I didn't stop. I stretched really well but didn't think to ice it...and Friday morning, it was swollen and sore again. After 120 min of Zumba and a rigorous run, I think it was just telling me it needed a break! So I took yesterday off.
But today was TOOO BEAUTIFUL to stay inside! We won't have many more days like this, and I didn't want to miss out. But I also didn't want to push myself too hard and possibly lengthen my recovery.
So I hit the trails again today...but with the plan to walk every part that wasn't paved...every hill, steep or not, and to take my time. It was a great day for it, I ran on the Wabash Heritage Trail and the river and trees (even with most of the leaves already gone) were sooo lovely. It was really nice to slow down, take a few breaks and walk instead of pushing myself. It was EXACTLY what I needed!!
I made it 7.5 miles, divided into segments. Two .75 miles segments, entirely unpaved, where I finished in 11 min and 12 minutes....three segments that were about 1.75 miles, which I jogged in 19, 20, and 21 minutes. And then four segments of about 1/3 mile each...getting on and across the pedestrian bridge, and on and off the trail...altogether, those segments took 15 minutes (ramps up to the bridge took the longest, obviously).
So, I didn't set any new personal records. I didn't run as fast as I could have run, or as long as I could have run. But I had soooo much fun, and so far the ankle feels great! I'm icing it now, just to be on the safe side!
This week was A LOT more active than last week...can't wait to see my weigh-in next week! As long as I keep up with the cardio, I should have some weight loss to celebrate a week from today!!
