And it's wearing smaller clothes.

This morning, I was lamenting online the size of my ironing mountain. It had been building for some time (you wouldn't believe me if I said since I came back from holiday five weeks ago, so I won't mention it) and contained a lot of summer clothes.

It also contained things that don't need ironing anyway.

So I got down to sorting through it and folding the non-ironable items and putting them away. And then I looked at what was left and it was still an awful lot.

And then I started to think, hard.

Lots of the stuff in the 'needs ironing' pile was summer clothes from my holiday. It's definitely not summer any more, so I'd normally be ironing them and shoving them in the back of the wardrobe. However they included two skirts and half a dozen blouses that were on the loose side six weeks ago. Also one pair of nearly new black trousers of the falling-off loose persuasion.

I took a deep breath and grabbed destiny with both hands.

I sorted out three piles:

1. things that I can still wear because they are small enough (oh how beautiful that sounds !) and will go under a winter jumper

2. things that are too big now and will be waaay too big come the spring but are still in good enough condition for someone else to wear

3. things in a dangerously embarrassing and knackered condition that I was still wearing because of the difficulty of finding anything I like to replace them. We've all got (ahem!) THAT particular tshirt, right?

Group 1 will get ironed this evening (promise).

Group 2 went to the charity shop at 2pm today, two WHOLE supermarket carrier bags full.

Group 3 went in the charity recycling bin. They recycle the fibres.

My wardrobe is three-quarters empty and I am limp and terrified. What HAVE I done?

If I put weight on now, I'll be going naked.

Don't get your hopes up guys. SparkPeople and I mean business.

I've found the joy in throwing away clothes that are now too big! That horrible shirt that I bought because it was the only thing I could find and I felt awful wearing it... crumpled into a ball and shoved into the garbage with a triumphant grin.

That's fantastic. I have been nervous about getting rid of clothes that are now too big, in case I gain weight back... which I think is really the wrong attitude. I commend you, and hope to do the same!

LOVE your blog! Congratulations on your success and on avoiding some ironing! It is a great strategy to sort out clothing: Never going to be that size again - donate or toss. Still fits - keep. Out of style/not flattering - toss or donate. emoticon

No looking back, just forward! I gave up ironing years ago because I absolutely hate it! If it needs ironing I don't buy it, so I commend your plan today. Now you have lots of room for all the new smaller better looking clothes you can wear!

Happy Sunday to you!

The larger you going naked should be incentive to stay thin. The thin you would relish in going naked, the heavier one not so much! LOL

Make this a great day!

I can really relate to what you are saying. Last time I lost a significant amount of weight, I made the mistake of holding on to my "good" clothes. The result was that eventually I fit back into them. This time I am committed to a lifestyle change and everything that is too big is gone.

    Way to go !!

I have a bag of clothes that are smaller that I *used* to wear and would like to wear again... I think? Sometimes I think I'd rather take the lot to charity store and then just plan to go back to charity store to buy some "new-to-me" clothes for the interim, while I continue going down.

And I * WISH * I had local place to recycle the fibers because I do have lots of ratty tatters that a self-respecting person of lesser means would not want!!

You did the right thing by cleaning out! I had yo yoed with my weight for years. The first time I got rid of the "fat" clothes was scarey, but I've kept it off for 5 years now. I don't have any big clothes to fall back on. Way to go with your progress. emoticon
