Still on track, Day 201 of food journal - Fitbit is great for maintenance

Saturday, November 10, 2012

I got a Fitbit this past Thursday, and am using that instead of my heart rate monitor. I think this is going to be great for maintenance. I have used a Polar heart rate monitor up to now to track my calories burned with exercise, but I knew I was probably losing some of them since I would take it off, and often do a lot of other active things during the day. This Fitbit is my little friend, and it affirmed my activity levels the first day. The day I first wore it was one of my "rest" days and I ended up logging over 7000 steps and 13 sets of stairs. Today I am over 10000 steps just from mowing my yard. It is 8:30 in the morning and I don't plan to sit the rest of this day.
I do believe that it may be exaggerating my calories burned through exercise, but it does explain why I have lost weight so well while eating an average of 1850 calories daily rather consistently. Of course I vary my intake from day to day, but the lowest day I have had in months was 1400 something when I was sick.
I like how the thing knows when I am running, and puts red lines there.
I like how the thing is all Tight on my bra so I don't have to worry about it falling off and getting lost.
It is a great little motivator too, Thursday when I saw those stairs being recorded I went out for a 20 minute walk to find a bunch more staircases I could climb. I may look for some today, I like getting the little badges.

I love my fitbit!! It really encourages me to climb stairs! I think you may be right in that it is generous in its count, but it is very motivational. emoticon
