Excitement turns to fear

Saturday, November 10, 2012

I wanted to get my BMI this am when I went to the gym and Linda had me hop up onto the scale again. (Last time they took my BMI, it was 53. This am, 33).

The scale in my doctor's office and the scale in the gym are equal. I would always double check: weighed at doctor in am, weighed at gym in evening.

I've lost 4 pounds since my doctor's appointment.

FOUR POUNDS IN 48 HOURS!

Eight pounds in 10 days.

Not good.

That is really scary. I know that diabetes runs in my family (my father). If this is me getting diabetes, why didn't it hit me when I was over 300 pounds? I'm getting healthy, so why now?

I'M THE FREAK THAT, WHEN TOLD TO BRING A DESSERT TO A DINNER, BROUGHT APPLES!!!!!!!
(Don't worry, I also brought a cake).

I'm sure I'm just putting the cart before the horse and that nothing is really wrong and, according to Linda, maybe my metabolism is increasing and my body's freaking out and it will all even out.

My sister's response: "Eat more." emoticon

Yeah....no thanks.

I'm eating what I'm supposed to be eating. I'm not starving myself. I want this weight loss to last, so I'm being healthy about it. I'm eating enough (sometimes more than enough but rarely not enough). I'm not overexercising. I am being smart about this.

Off to talk with my auntie, my "on-call medical professional," and with Dr. Mom.

Sometimes our body just drops a lot of weight really quickly. Mine does ALL the time. I'll have a week or so where I'll drop 5-10 lbs (which is a lot for me right now!) and then I'll have a week where I lose 1 lb. It all varies.

I don't starve myself (yet people think I do because I don't eat a lot) and I listen to my body. Just eat if you're hungry. That's the key! If your body says eat, then eat!!

I've posted a very similar blog a few weeks ago. I lost 10 lbs VERY quickly and got concerned that I was losing muscle and not fat. I still have that concern and when I reach my goal weight and I'm not happy with how my body looks, then I'm going to see a nutritionist or get a personal trainer or something. I just don't understand how I'll have a "healthy" BMI when I lose 6 more pounds and I don't understand how all the inches are going to be gone when I lose approximately 20-25 more. So I'm just going to see what happens for now!

As far as the diabetes, as far as I'm aware, type I is where you lose weight rapidly, are diagnosed at a young age, and are often very sick. Type II is when you're obese, don't eat right, diagnosed when your older (generally greater than 40), and aren't sick. So I wouldn't be concerned with diabetes right now.

Just keep what you're doing and feel thrilled that you're losing weight!
