For the squeamish this blog might be a bit too much TMI.
The blue skies held for my long run yesterday, but it was really windy & I swear it turned around & I was running into it both ways! I thought I was underdressed but it worked out ok.
I was probably a bit under fueled to begin with. Because I had to take Simba to the vet, I didn't really have a chance to eat lunch -- I can't have a lot of food sitting in my stomach before a long run. I've found eating about 3 hrs beforehand works best for me & I didn't have that kind of time yesterday; I ate a small marathon bar as a snack before (hoping to score more samples of these at the expo in Las vegas!).
So the run went pretty well til that last half mile. First I managed to pull out the headphone cord from my MP3 player & had to futz with that a bit. Then I started to feel slightly nauseous. I was tired & even tho I'd told myself I could cut it short due to time constraints, give me a plan & 9 times out of 10 I'll follow it. It was only half a mile, after all, & if I started to walk I'd just get cold, anyway.
And here comes the TMI: I began to feel the need for a bathroom. I don't get stomach dumping as so many runners do - sometimes the opposite - a hard stool that hurts & yeah, that's what happened yesterday. You're tired, a little cold, slightly nauseous & in pain. That last half mile wasn't pretty but I got it done.
The title came in because I knew from past experience that the pain would pass & it did (came back, but then passed again). Most things really do pass, even this rough patch I'm going thru.
And you don't have to worry about me either - I'm not constipated - quite the opposite; I'm extremely regular. I read about people who only go once a week & i'm frankly flabbergasted. But I do eat a high fiber diet & it just happens sometimes.
Well, it's all downhill from here. Time to taper & I'm ready!
