Making Progress in Baby Steps

Friday, November 09, 2012

So I am working on small changes in my life. Trying to get more healthy and trying to finish unpacking. I have not been successful at just turning the switch and going back to a completely healthy lifestyle, so Iíve decided to work my way back into things slowly.

On the good side, we did get an offer on our old house and passed the appraisal and associated negotiations with the buyers. Our house was on the market less than 1 day before we got an offer. Unfortunately it turns out this buyer is going with FHA financing who is now trying to tell us he has no money to put down. Iím upset at the process for buying and selling a house these days. The banks are low balling the appraisals and comparing foreclosed houses to normal sales. Itís the people like us that were responsible citizens, lived within our means and paid our bills that are getting hurt by it all.

Also, there are too many people that are trying buy houses for which they havenít saved enough money. What are they going to do if the housing market goes down again? Has nobody learned from the last 5 years? Thereís a reason why 30 year fixed rate mortgages with 20% down were the only way people used to buy houses. It was seen as a home and a place to make a life; not an investment. People actually bought starter homes and saved up to buy a bigger house. Pay your dues and save your money. Some good old fashioned values and work ethic would do the US some good. Our home is not a starter home. If youíre a single guy and donít have enough for the down payment Ė buy a smaller house! You donít need a 3 bedroom colonial.

That said, we are really loving our new neighborhood, but I need to find time to finish unpacking. We have several To Dos (fix the shelves, install shelves, etc.) that need to be completed so we can finish up the unpacking. I am getting so frustrated with not knowing exactly where all of my stuff is. For example, I have this wonderfully organized folder of greeting cards arranged by month. The problem? Well, since weíve moved Iím not sure which box in the basement has them. So I was very frustrated earlier this week when I couldnít find the cool Veterans day cards I had for my father.

As for being healthy Iím taking baby steps in getting back with the program. Iíve been getting to work earlier and getting a walk in before I start working. Over the course of the next few weeks I expect this walk will get longer as several of the constructions sites on my commute are scheduled to be taken down for the winter. Iíll be getting to work even earlier and adding a bit to my walk time. As of yesterday I also, Iíve just started getting my 8 glasses of water in each day. I think my next steps is to add more strenuous cardio and strength training. I also need to do more planning for my meals and start packing my lunch and snacks.

Now all I need to do is find the box where we packed the pieces for the Bow Flex and the extension cord for the treadmill ÖÖÖ.

We finally have a real offer on my MIL's house after almost a year and a half o nthe market. It's a buyers market and sometimes you have to settle for less.

SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE...

SORRY ABOUT THE HOUSE, THESE DAYS IT SEEMS NOBODY SAVES FOR ANYTHING AND I GUESS WHEN I WAS YOUNGER I DID THE SAME THING, NOW WHAT I FEEL SAFER WITH IS HAVING SOME SAVINGS THOUGH IT SEEMS LIKE WHEN IT STARTS TO BUILD UP SOMETHING HAPPENS WE HAVE TO GET INTO IT. LOL!

ENJOY YOUR NEW HOME
