Nov. 6-8: Being thankful

Nov. 6: Election Day! I’m truly thankful for the right to cast a vote for whomever my heart desires. It wasn’t that long ago that women weren’t able to vote, so I take pride in going to the polls and letting my voice be heard (although I rarely talk politics with anyone!). I was a journalist for several years and Election Night was by far the most exciting night of the year. It was chaos, fueled on adrenaline and pizza. Every year since I’ve been out of the newsroom, I have had withdrawal. I miss it, but I’m grateful that I was able to be a part of something so important for so many years.
Nov. 7: As silly as is seems, I’m thankful for running gear. I might have a bit too much gear considering how little I run (right now). But having a heart rate monitor or a new armband to hold my iPhone helps it all solidify and become clear to me what I’m doing when I’m out there. I can run without that stuff, but I like checking my heart rate to see if it’s really elevated or if I’m just feeling tired. Running gear makes it a little more interesting.
Nov. 8: My house. I love my little house. My husband and I bought it a few years ago, and it’s the first for both of us. It’s also the first time I’ve wanted to settle down somewhere and this house has been the perfect starter for us. It may have illogical light switch placement and lack simple things like a dishwasher, but it’s home. And most days, including today, I can’t wait to go home.
