Yesterday I sat down in the bath, and looked down, and there was a crease in my gut. Sorry if this is TMI. It's been quite some time since I had a waistline and it looks rather as though it's on its way back.

Really, I should have been expecting this. When I look at my reflection sideways in the mirror (I cannot face it full on. I cannot. Not without clothes) I have a collection of dents in odd places (still more bulge than dent though). The nascent waistline must be the latest development. This is one I want to encourage.

So anyway, I got out my tape measure and wrapped it round my middle and squawked a bit because the tape measure was cold (manufacturers note: there is a market for a self-warming tape measure) and sure enough, waist measurement down 4cm. That's a bit over an inch and a half in old money.

'About time,' I said to myself. My waist measurement has proved the most stubborn of all. Everything else has been shrinking nicely, but not my mid region. For some time I've been looking like a Christmas stocking with an orange shoved halfway down it.

It's not nice to laugh. Stop it.

You should try getting clothes to fit that shape. When magazine articles ask 'Are you a pear shape or an apple' I always tick the box that says 'blob'. Or I would if they gave that as an option.

You wait. Six months, and I'll look like a banana that's been squeezed in the middle. emoticon

PS: apples and pears = stairs in Cockney rhyming slang but this isn't a blog about stairs. Or I don't think it is.

You have an absolutely delightful sense of humor! My body is more apple than pear, and pretty much of the "dented" fruit variety, but from now on, on those rare occasions when I give it more than a cursory glance in the mirror, I'm going to remember this blog and smile a little! (And here, here for the self-warming tape measure!)

NONE of my measurements move down much, even after lots of pounds. I guess it might have something to do with my being short. I am kind of tired of reading those diet product ads that state "I lost 7 inches from my waist!" etc. etc. I have to continue working on not letting the inches thing get me down.

My mother always told me I looked like a sack of potatoes (when they were REAL sacks not the paper ones) so I grew up expecting to look lumpy and bumpy. I am really happy the tape measure gave NSV to tell your dr on the next checkup. Next time you are at the gym have a go on the scales that do the body fat, that comes down little by little too. It costs a pound at the leisure centre and it is presented on a bit of paper I cannot read until I put my glasses on (which have been removed for weighing in case they add 3kg!)
Good luck for your weekend walking, thermals are available in Aldi this week!

I totally feel you on the waist taking its own sweet little time about shrinking. I'm hoping it a little tortoise and hare race with my hips, where the waist is slow and steady but will get there.

Then I tried searching for it, but no luck

It is 2 people. One says:
"My body is apple-shaped and yours is pear-shaped.
How can we be unhealthy if we look like
a fresh, fruit salad?!!?"

Once again a very enjoyable blog. I can't Identify with your problem because my waist and hips have never been much of a problem. I have trouble getting boots and pants that fit because my legs are so big. If pants fit around my legs they are usually way too big around the waist. I do like the relaxed fit jeans. They fit me like regular jeans do most people. I have to admit I was a bad girl I laughed when you said not to. emoticon

Hooray for you! Is blob better than sausage tied in the middle? Okay, so I'm a pear, although lately the waist isn't shrinking as much as everything else. I'm hoping the waist will eventually catch up! Thanks to strength training the hips and thigh are shaping up nicely. Why aren't those wicked crunches with a twist trimming that waist more?!

I think belly fat is the most oblivious of all fats. No one wants it around but it just refuses to take a hint and disappear. It's totally unaware of it's unpopularity. It hangs (literally) around like that unwelcome guest that refuses to leave. My belly fat has taken personal responsibility for concealing my caesarian scar and refuses to give it up no matter how much I beg. Sigh. Kudos on persuading your BF (belly fat not best friend)to begin a disappearing act. I picturing you as a banana squished in the middle already!

Well done on the shrinkage front (this is a war-zone, right?). Nothing like a bath for showing up the bulges, creases and bumps. In a shower I'm so busy getting the water and soap to go where I want it, NOT in my eyes, that I can ignore all the undesirable elements!

Congratulations on your "crease"! They say the weight comes off in waves. (ie, first your face, neck, chest, waist/stomach, hips, thighs, legs, then start over). I tend to believe "Them" because it seems this week my hips and butt are out of proportion to my shoulders and stomach. And a couple of weeks ago, I was griping because I was so dang top-heavy, with legs and butt that seemed too small for the rest of me. It's not time for me to measure, but I will say, I'm curious what the cold witch has to say.
