Blood drive failure

Thursday, November 08, 2012

UGh, there was more snow than I anticipated, so it took longer to clear the cars and driveway, so I missed spin class today. Failure #1

I went to give blood today, I even ate breakfast before my 10 am appt.
I tested low on iron, so I couldn't give. Failure #2.
This has happened before, but I always feel like a failure. I have been tested at the Doc. and I am not eneimic, she says this is common in women. I need to eat more red meat and spinach. She says she dosn't think I need a vitamin as she doesn't like to recommend them, that we should be able to get enough nutrients thru food.

But, I have been avoiding red meat, I have been dieting, so I know that i the reason. Last time I was dieting I made sure to eat meat and lots of spinach salads or take a multi vitamin w/ iron. Problem is that I forgot about the blood drive this time. and didn't prepare.

Bummer. I always feel like I've done something terrific when I donate.
Oh well, next time they come to the office I will be READY!!
Have a great day everyone! I know I plan on NO MORE Failures for the rest of the Day!

Oh, please! We can't get enough nutrients from food these days! The soil is depleted. Doctors should know this. The idea that supplements aren't needed seems ridiculous to me. And I eat a good deal of red meat with it's healthy fat, since I try to get only grass-fed. When will the general consensus turn to what is really true and not something Big Agra is trying to foist upon us? Sorry, didn't mean to have a bit of a rant...

I'm always at 36 which is to low on Iron to give, but if you take Flintstone Chewable children's vitamins with Iron (take 2) each day, it will bring it up. The chewables absorb the best and dont past straight through like hard ones do.

The weather created difficulties for many. Sorry you missed spin class but there will be others.

Next time you'll be prepared to give blood and will feel great about it.

Not failures at all but maybe disappointments.

I have failed at blood drives too and one thing I found out from my doctor is that it can really depend on the time of month. Experiment with the next few drives that you are eligible for and see if you do better with a drive that is mid-cycle or so. For me if I try to give right after I've had my you-know-what, then I am more likely to flunk that iron test.

you can still eat meat. Just be careful of what kind of meat and find a meat that isn't fatty.! You can do it emoticon emoticon
