Eatin in while out of town

The question comes up pretty much weekly on the Spark message boards... work is taking me out of town for a week, what do I do? I thought it might help someone if I posted what I'm eating on this week's business trip. First off, I was able to drive here to Salt Lake, so I shopped yesterday and brought a cooler with me. Good thing, because there's no fridge in the room like I expected. There are many portable, healthy foods available now. Many of these would survive a plane trip as well: tuna packets, apples, oranges, baby carrots, nuts and dark chocolate. The berries yogurt , hummus and fresh veggies are a little less durable.


If you're flying, see if you can arrange to stay near a market or make a trip or two to a store during your stay. if you can get a room with a fridge youll be set, if you can get a microwave too, even better. A couple handy things to bring are a plastic bowl, knife, fork, spoon and a small cutting board (I got a small plastic one at Wal-Mart for a dollar). Just don't try to bring a knife in your carry on!

Here is the salad I'm enjoying tonight: mesclun, shredded cabbage, sugar snap peas, tomato, tuna, radish, green onion, avocado and some balsamic on top. Yum!


Tomorrow morning will be yogurt with berries and nuts, then I'll be sociable and go out to lunch with my co-workers without feeling totally derailed.

I hope this gives some other travelers ideas, and if you have some tricks of your own, I'd love to hear them!
