"Mommy and Me" Day

Tuesday, November 06, 2012

Today has been a great day. I have spent some real quality time with my youngest daughter the last couple of days, and I am so thankful that I have had the opportunity to do so. She makes me smile, and I just love being around her.

Yesterday, I took her to buy something special that she and I (and my husband when he is off) could do together. She chose a picnic basket. It's pink and includes four plates, four sets of utensils, and four cups. It has to be the cutest picnic basket I have ever seen. We both just love it.

Today, I decided we'd have to make use of it. I prepared some healthy foods for us, and I let her pack up the basket. We were planning a trip to the park, but I have an appointment this afternoon, and instead of throwing the whole day away, I decided we could do it in my backyard.

I set up the table with table cloth, and put out some chairs. She put the picnic basket on the table and started to unpack. What a cutie pie! I just love watching her and talking to her. What a good reason to get healthy! We had apple slices and crab salad on whole wheat crackers. We enjoyed some water along with our meal, and she told me how much she loved everything. Healthy meals with mom is a good memory to create.

I had her when I was in my late 30s, so the way I interact with her is so much different than the way I was with my other girls. Everything was always about schedules and never really taking the time to do these little things that I have realized I missed out on with them. They love to go walking with me in the evening, and I love to watch the two junior high schoolers interact with each other, but it's just not the same.

I am thankful that I am getting healthy. It's only been three weeks, and I feel my energy level has increased by 100% or more. I love to go do things. After our lunch, I got my littlest angel, and we went for a walk. She was tired, but she is already over it and playing as I type (oh to have the energy to play like a four-year-old again). It's been a great day, and I love all that I am doing. The time I spend with her is not only great for her, but it is so great for me. I, as well as she, will have these memories for a lifetime.
