Unpacking and climbing back onto (?into) the wagon. Reality check.

So, the last several weeks my life have been consumed with moving to a new state, packing, unpacking, getting my old house ready to rent out, termites, fixing termite damage, squeezing all the furniture from my house into a much smaller apartment, etc. You get the idea... Plus all that and no food in my new fridge for the last four days = lots of excuses and eating out or worse yet, grabbing junk food at the store.

I just unpacked the scale -- which I haven't seen for a few weeks now. Ugh. I don't even want to go there.

Okay. I just went there.

Hard to avoid actually.

I'm up 1.8 pounds -- although I feel like I ought to be up 10 pounds. So all in all -- it could be much worse. Glad that I haven't undone all my hard work completely.

My new apartment complex has a little gym that I have access to 24/7. I'm going to go scope it out today. I think that I'll miss my old "real" gym -- but the cost I won't miss. This is free (or at least included in my rent). Also I discovered a yoga studio down the street from my house. I used to practice yoga once a week on Sunday mornings, and just loved it. So I might go check that studio out and see what they have to offer.

Looks like I'll be making some adjustments to my old routine. And while there is a lot of hiking (my favorite activity) here in Albuquerque -- as I'm not yet familiar with any of the trails, I'm going to stick closer to home for the time being. Hopefully I can venture out with some of the meetup hiking groups. I signed up for a hike this weekend. (That and there is a ballroom dancing event on Sunday -- whee!) There looks to be a walking trail along a ridge that I can see from my balcony -- maybe I'll be able to check that out this afternoon.

Okay. Unpacking a few more things today, and setting up my crockpot for a barley casserole (one of my favorite healthy grains recipes). Then heading to Sprouts to stock up on veggies and fruits for the rest of the week.

So my plan was to move to an apartment initially and then buy a house in a year to a year and a half if all goes well. Already through, I'm dreading the idea of packing up and moving again so soon. One day at a time I guess.

I've also decided that technology is annoying. I've got three degrees and it took me several hours to figure out how to hook up the tv to an antennae (decided to skip cable as I don't watch enough cable to make the cost justifiable). I still haven't figured out the dvd player or stereo yet. AND I've got this fancy smancy home electronics thing called Insteon to control lights from my computer -- no idea either. UGH.

Okay. I'm going to go work on some things that I know I can do (organize my jewelry and hang up a clock). That should get me on the right foot today. Checking out my gym and this trail on the ridge this afternoon. And TRACKING EVERYTHING once again.

Maybe I'll make some roasted veggies to go with my barley pine nut casserole tonight! YUM.

    I love New Mexico! We have a lot of family there, and my husband and I spent our college years and young adult life (pre-kids) exploring the state. We're hoping to come out in January and visit our people and do some skiing. It's a great place to live and be active. But also a great place to eat. Oh lordy, so much deliciousness!

Just be sure to enjoy the active lifestyle more if you're enjoying the cuisine more! Haha! Good luck with the unpacking!

    Welcome to New Mexico. Maybe next year you can attend the Day of the Dead parade. If you are looking for a gym, try out Planet Fitness. It's either $10 or $20 a month depending on the plan you choose. I love it.

    You can always head out to the multi-use Bosque Trail system for some nice hikes along the river and ditches. The trail is mostly on the east side of the river though. On the west side, this is the perfect time of year to go out ot the Volcano Day Use area.

    Oh gosh, I know how the moving thing goes, in the last 10 years I've moved 4 times (military). It's so cool to have a yoga center right down the road--I would love that. Hope things get settled for you quickly! emoticon

    LOL! Moving is miserable! Technology - mixed bag. Some of it I'm fine with, some, not so much. I have no idea how on earth one controls lights from one's computer. Should be an adventure. Be careful w/ the trails - you don't want to get caught out at night. Every cell phone has coverage in different areas, so just because someone has it, doesn't mean you do!

    Really good, last time we moved was around three years and was awful, I'm not moving again in at least another two years, unless is REALLY necessary...
