Week 12 of Marathon Training UPDATE

Not sure why I posted that blog on Saturday, when I normally do it on Sunday. Guess with all that happened last week, everything was off!

Just wanted to update about the Half Marathon on Sunday. I went into it with no real expecations and figured I'd see how I felt starting out. Started out strong, first mile around 8:15 and felt good...then all of a sudden...the 5k from the day before caught up to me...and my calves were SO tight I had to STOP and stretch them. I'd never experienced this before, so I had to stop a few more times and was so uncomfortable running. So I eventually decided this race was going to be a nice stroll with a medal at the end lol! I'd never tried to "race" back to back before and I don't think I will again! Since I was originally scheduled to pace the 2:30 group in Savannah, then do a race pace shorter run the next day, I figured I did the opposite, a race pace on Saturday and a pacing pace the next day. I walked a lot and enjoyed the water views along the course. Finished in 2:20 (my personal best in the Half is 1:49) and I was fine with it.

But for a highlight, my husband also did the Half and he came in 10th overall and 1st in his Age Group. I was so proud of him! He ran this race last year and came in 4th just shy of missing out on an award. So proud of him!!!
