I clean my plate!

Monday, November 05, 2012

I hear a lot of advice about leaving food on my plate. I cannot imagine doing that intentionally.

I weigh and measure all the ingredients into each recipe I make, and I plate from the kitchen like a restaurant, rather than passing serving bowls. I put exactly my portion of everything on my plate, or plates as the meal may be. Then I get to eat it ALL!

I remember an old WW leader saying that a rubber spatula was an essential part of the WW program, because if you measure out your portion you can scrape up every drop. She said that if no one was looking you could lick your plate and still be legal.

I guess I'm basically greedy about my food. I want it all!! If I measure it out, I can have it all. It's my way of making sure I never feel deprived.

I agree! Cleaning my plate is my reward for weighing and measuring!

It might be a good advice for some, but not for me, I clean my plate! The rick is not to put too much on it...bought smaller plates it has done some good.

    Thanks again, Nell.
Isn't it interesting what a "clean plate" stirs up?
The only time I've had trouble with cleaning a plate was when somebody else filled my plate but that doesn't happen anymore...I catch them before it happens.

Each person has their own way of being. Me: I'm the clean plate club. But, I have gotton so that if I have had 'enough' I will wrap the food and refridgerate it for another time. I (don't) throw away perfectly good food.

Me too! (I just bought an early 1990's WW cookbook with the entire Exchange Program in it, lol. A refresher.)

When I go out to dinner, I sometimes will ask for a to-go box as soon as my dinner arrives and put half of it into the box. Next day's lunch.

I can't stand when people give you the advice to say, buy a cupcake, eat half and throw the other half away. Allow for the calorie intake of all you have (within reason), or don't eat it at all. I don't find it is responsible to intentionally throw food away, especially at home. Not with the environmental implications and not with so many starving people in this world.
Excellent blog entry! I didn't think anyone agreed. Thanks!

I clean my plate! However, what has changed, if I taste something I don't really want, I throw it out! Yep, can't believe it as I type it, but I do. I finally have realized I'm worth eating what tastes good and what is good - this coming from someone who use to eat the burnt portions, food I didn't like, etc.

I'm with you, too! If I like the food (and I almost always do because I don't make or choose meals I don't like), I eat and enjoy as much as I have decided is my portion. I figure a keen appetite is a sign of health. It's like with my dogs. If they go off their feed, I know something significant is off with them.

I'm with you on this one too. I don't overload my plate (except maybe on fruits and veggies) emoticon , so I don't want to leave it behind either...besides I think of it as wasteful too.
