Stay safe --- short days!

Sunday, November 04, 2012

Shorter days with less light catch me by surprise every year! It gets dark so early!

This year my reflective vest was ready and hanging on the closet door handle. I hit the road wearing my headlamp. Of course, a neighbor had to pull up, slow down, and question my attire! But that means she saw me and I was safe. Be careful out there!

I move faster in the dark! Or is it the cooler air? I added running intervals and covered a couple of miles quicker than usual.

I hate the early dark nights too. I also hate the cold, which is why I move my workouts indoors during the week and only walk outdoors on a bright sunny weekend day. But I probably should still get a reflective vest just in case I ever change my mind.

And being out with the poochie, I have a collar that is reflective as well! I always go thru the adjustment to the shorter days as well.

I used to run faster at night, too... or I couldn't tell how slow I was moving. ;)

I hate Standard Time and winter. I hate everything about both . I'd set the clocks forward by many hours, spring and fall. Of course, I'd also abolish school between Memorial Day and Labor Day, advocate a unicameral legislature (painting the whole map a dark, rich shade of royal blue), allow voting online, drop Middle School altogether (why subject new generations of innocent kids to that socio-psychological hell?), disallow reality TV that focuses on the weirdnesses of the lifestyles of others... I have quite the platform, and you touched a central theme.

Write me in for President?

I like wearing my reflective vest too - I wear it year around, day or night. I'm too deaf really to be without it, because many of the new cars are too quiet when they come driving slowly behind me on residential streets.

Once, my son and I were walking around in broad daylight, had our vests on, and the local police drove by, doing their rounds. They complimented us on our vests, told us they had seen the vests from over 1/2 mile away, and that they wished more people wore them. Then they handed us coupons for a free ice cream cone from the local hamburger joint! (which I didn't need - that's why I was out walking, was to work off years of eating TOO MUCH ICE CREAM!). But... they meant well, they didn't know that, and we enjoyed our ice cream cones!

But those vests DO make a difference night or day!!
