It doesn't matter one way or the other

Sunday, November 04, 2012

if I reach my goal weight by Dec 20th. I started trying to get back to goal 11 weeks ago. I initially gave myself until Dec 20th to reach that goal. That would mean in the first 11 weeks I have lost 7 lbs and that I have 7 weeks left to lose 11 lbs. If I don't reach that goal, will I quit? NO! I will just keep going. Slow and steady wins the race after all.
I knew it would be a challenge when I initially setup this goal since I am a slow loser but I thought it was achievable. Do I still think it is achievable? Yes, I will have to really watch everything I eat, which I sometimes struggle with. Exercise is never the problem, it is always the food.
So 11 more pounds to goal weight with two holidays looming. Can I do it? You bet, it may take a little longer than the 7 weeks I gave myself but I am not giving up. Because I have done it before, I know I can do it again!

Yes, you have done it before and you will succeed! I think your approach is perfect. I have complications in life too but am also not giving up. That is the worst thing to do now. I feel that any progress is good progress, and the goal will be met.

I'm realizing I am not likely to make my Thanksgiving goals. I had too much excessive complications in my life in October. But I'm not quitting. I can only control what I do from here on and I choose to continue Towards the goals, regardless of what the timeframe is.

You're right, it doesn't matter if you reach that goal by December 20. It's going to be more of what got you to goal to stay at goal, right?

    That's the right attitude!

You reminded me of a quote I saw from C.S. Lewis (Alice in Wonderland author): "Aim at heaven and you will get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you get neither." You're aiming at heaven, so no matter how it works out, you'll get earth (pounds lost) thrown in!

Hey Paige! You and I girl face the same demons! We rock the exercise, but we struggle with the food! I so hear your pain, but love your attitude! Sometimes it does seem like an endless cycle. I gave myself all of 2012 to get back to goal and it's not going to happen. I'm ok with that. I went back to some bad habits and it's been a struggle letting go of them. But I know what I have to do and I know that YOU know what you have to do too. Never give up on the person you deserve to be. I'm with you and I'm cheering you on! emoticon Libbie

You've got the right attitude, that's great for you! Our goals should be flexible enough to fit into our lives with anything unexpected that happens and also to save us from disappointment. You just do what you have to do, give it your best and feel good about yourself. That's what's most important!

Totally agree with you: because what's the "goal" . . . a specific weight? Or a lifelong commitment to healthy eating and exercise? Yeah.

We have this tendency to want either a huge culminating achievement or in the alternative to give up and "peter out". Neither of these work for me. Day in, day out satisfaction in life derived from commitment TO life: that's less dramatic but it works for me.

You're right, when you get to your goal is not the important part. Getting to you goal is important. If you get there in January or February, no big deal. Nobody needs the extra stress of an artificial deadline when your body decides to not cooperate for a few weeks and plateaus. You have an attitude that will help you be very successful. Great!!

Great attitude!! You are so right, slow and steady!! You will reach your goal!!
I am just the opposite - exercise is my issue, I can handle the food part I just need to move more!!

    Good on you! 'Doesn't matter'

Cos it doesn't. You're making healthier choices for WEEKS now. THAT is what's important cos I tell you, looking at mum's chest split wide open? Yeah. Healthy choices, most of the time are GOOD.
