Update on the Fitbit

Okay I love it but there are some faults:-

Positives are that I am definitely feeling inspired to do more, even digging out my Wii board and using it as a stepper and using my Wii a bit more, going up and down stairs just to get my floors in and "dancing" on the spot when I have a chance to get the odd step in here and there.

Negatives:
1. The sync with SP doesn't work for the weight. Seriously it would be fantastic if I lost 149 lbs over night but well, hello, don't think so. It is putting in some weight that I have not even targeted for but I think is perhaps an "ideal" or something. My target is 140 lbs being 10 stones which puts me at the top of my BMI range but I am muscular and big boned build and having always been fat I don't want to end up on the skinny side.

2. Yesterday apparently I climbed 19 floors of stairs - er no, we drove to Wales and went up and down a few hills in the car. I actually only did 5 flights of stairs but got in over 10,000 steps. The steps may also be slightly out but the GPS device we use for tracking recorded a good distance so I am content it was accurate enough. The next Fitbit they bring out needs an off switch for when in the car going up and down and over bumpy roads.

But that does not put me off. I am irritated by the SP sync issue and hope it gets picked up and sorted - it has not been running a month yet so early days. I am not going OTT on accuracy - it seems to be the most accurate pedometer I have ever used and is not hindered by my big belly. I still love it and now my husband's Fitbit arrived too we can compare and encourage each other.

    I definitely am benefitting from the device and there are faults but it is great for the likes of me who are just not able to structure an exercise programme and keep up motivation.

The weight loss issue seems to have sorted itself out with me upgrading my Blackberry to a Samsung phone and now using the application rather than the mobile site. Long may it continue x

To have your husband as a "Fitbit buddy" seems like just the ticket in that y'all can each encourage one another.

    yes I have found that hills seen to count as stairs My driveways is way steeper than a step of stairs and just about the distance of 1.5 regular stairs my fitbit one always counts that as a flight of stairs I think that is great and wonderful it takes a lot more energy to climb my driveway than it does to walk down the hall. Also I have not had problems with weight numbers check your SP start page. Best of luck and remember its not perfect but it really doesn't need to be its really just about moving more than before .

    I rarely, if ever, have any difficulty with hills tracking in the car. I use a Fitbit Ultra rather than one of the newer models, though, and I tend to use the Fitbit either hooked onto my bra or hooked on the right hip pocket of my jeans -- if you don't have it on your torso, it does have the tendency to inaccurately track stuff. :)

I do, however, find that when I do a lot of hills walking, it tracks the ascents as being stairs. This has led to a few 50-flights-of-stairs days when I was out doing hiking. Oops.

    Great blog and I'm with you on frustrations! Can't seem to get the distance caliberated with the steps,and I'll keep adjusting. Then, I feel it gives me too many "calories burned" - so I get the "eating too little and burning too much" message on my update page! Think I might have to go back to just putting in my actual activity - but then I feel like I wasted $59!!
