I went shopping instead of going swimming today. I needed new sneakers (I think I put about 600 miles on my old pair), plus groceries and dog food. The elevator in my building has been out of order for about a week, and I live on the third floor, so it is kind of a hike for me. I buy the big bag of dog food (30 lbs, I think), so I knew that with a bag of groceries and the bag from the sports store that I would be getting a workout. Boy did I ever. I got everything up in one load. It was a good thing my groceries were in a cloth bag though. I banged that sucker around getting through the doors on each floor. I could have waited until Tuesday for the groceries, but I figured I would buy a few things today, so there is less to carry on Tuesday. Canned goods get heavy fast!
I did get in over 2 hours of exercise even though I didn't go swimming. I walked almost 8 miles. About 6.5 miles of that with the dog. I just barely met my calorie burn for the week, but I did reach it, so I am happy. I did adjust my fitness tracker to reflect the fact I am not kayaking several hours a week anymore. Also it was weigh in day, and I managed to lose just over 1 pound. I was a little worried, because I went WAY over on sodium 2 days ago. (I am talking 9,000, instead of 2,300!) Extra sodium always makes me feel bloated. I have been drinking plenty of water though, so it has probably been flushed out of my system.
I think my brother has accepted the sad fact that our kayaking season is over for the year. He was making noises about going out tomorrow on one of the creeks, but he has changed his mind. I wasn't too thrilled with the idea, seeing as the temperature will be in the 30s. Cold air and cold water combined can be dangerous. I need to get a hold of him and see what I need to do to store my boat for the winter. I know there is room in the barn. I am just not certain where in the barn he wants to put the kayaks.
I had a marvelous lunch with my dad today. Mom was out of town teaching a Swedish cooking class, so I made a quick lunch for me and dad. We had venison stir fry. I put in onion, carrot, broccoli, zucchini, and of course venison. We put it over some brown rice I cooked up, and had homegrown soybeans, cold boiled beets and cold steamed kale on the side. I didn't think I would really like the kale cold, but it was pretty yummy. I guess it matters how long it was cooked and how fast it was chilled. I was afraid it would be slimy, but it wasn't at all.
Cooper got a chance to hang out with my dad while I ran errands. They are best buddies. It is so sweet the way my dad gets along with furry creatures. My parents have sort of unofficially adopted another cat. Their neighbor's cat refuses to go home anymore. She just curls up in my dad's office chair and won't leave. The neighbors don't seem to upset about this. I would freak. Oh well, some of us get more emotionally invested in our pets than others.
I really do want to get to the pool this weekend, so maybe tomorrow I will be able to convince myself to walk over and get in a workout. I am not used to the cold weather yet though, and the idea of jumping in a cold pool, and getting changed in a cold locker room just aren't very appealing when I know the walk is going to be cold as well. I know I need to just grit my teeth and do it, but I would really rather curl up with my dog and stay warm. I am a wuss...
