I really really really really (did I mention really?) didn't want to go running this morning. It was raining, and I had the worst PMS cramps of all time OF ALL TIME!
But I didn't run all week because I had a cold, and the weather was awful (I hate Belgian weather 10 months out of the year). So I had to go. I dragged myself out of bed (with the significant help of my partner). I bargained with myself and decided to only do a short 2 mile run because of the situation. Good enough!
I put on my snazzy winter running clothes - I have these new long running pants that are like spandex but have a fleece lining in them. They rock. And they are pink! I also wore this teal thermal-ish shirt that I bought 2 years ago in Seattle for winter sea kayaking (I threw that in there, because it makes me sound interesting - truth is, it was a beginners lesson, and I only did it once. lol). I donned my maroon ear-band (what do you call that thing that is like for keeping your ears warm, but it isn't a hat??) and day-glo yellow running gloves.
I took a look at myself in the mirror - here I am. The girl who HATED running. The girl who used to use every excuse in the book to not exercise. The girl who, quite literally, felt like fainting after jogging for 60 seconds.
But who was looking back at me??? A runner. A girl who could justify buying 50 Euro fancy pink winter running pants, because she will pry herself out of bed when she isn't feeling well and when the weather is, well, crap.... to go run a SHORT 2 miles! A girl who goes running to feel better. To make her monumental PMS cramps go away. To get energy. A girl who looks AWESOME in mismatched running clothes.
Part of me didn't even recognize this chick in the mirror. I was so impressed with my reflection, that I almost took a bathroom mirror pic to post on facebook.... but time was running out for my run, and I needed to get my 2 miles in.
I don't know when that girl in the mirror changed. It was sometime in the past 5 months.... but I like her. I hope she sticks around :-)
