Those Positive Forces

Thursday, November 01, 2012

I was just sitting here watching the coverage of the devastation of the storm in the northeast on FOX News. The pain of the people who have lost so much is so evident. Have been ther and been through it via a tornado in 1979. Have experienced that loss. You think that this is something that happens to other people - not to you.

One of the guests on the show was J. R. Martinez. Do you know who he is? He is a survivor of a devastating accident in either Iraq or Afganistan - I don't know which. He, at one time, was an outstandingly handsome man and was burned beyond recognition. He has gone through so many operations and skin grafts. He never gave up. Maybe you know him from Dancing With the Stars and his ever loving great big smile and never give up attitude. His mantra in life is to stay positive - always positve - in life whatever he has been dealt.

This made me start thinking about what I face on a daily basis. How minimal is the "trial" that I face and how "easy" is the solution to my daily situation compared to what this outstanding young man has faced. On top of my condition compared to what this young man has faced, I can control the outcome of what I face, and he could not. The only control he had was his attitude. He chose to stay positive and pick out all the positives from his surroundings. He contributed a lot of his surviving to the support of his loving mother and family. A great support system.

So let's see what we have here. I have control over the outcome of my weight condition in that I can chose the healthy food I eat and the exercise program I participate in. I can also chose to have a positive outlook on my healthy life style that will lead to my weight loss. I can also chose to have a positive outlook and take advantage of the positive support system that I have from my family, friends, and Spark friends.

So what makes it so difficult to make the changes that I need to make to have a better healthier lifestyle? I cannot answer this question. I can only go from here and think of this outstanding young man and hear his words as he spoke today in his interview. I would hope that I can think of the more positive forces that are there for me to reach for and engulf, the more positive people that I can surround me life with. I hope that I can be smart enough to recognize the negative and weed out or replace the negative with the more positive. Changing my thoughts and my actions from negative to positive are strictly up to me. This is something I have to work on daily.

Mr. Martinez, thank you for your inspiration and your strength to share your life with the world. I only hope that I can be half the positive person you have been. My journey is not near as tough as yours. I will get there and I will have those positive forces with me all the way.

After reading this blog and hearing about others who are facing more challenging things then what we face, hopeful it will put things in prospective.

I have learned over the years to stop worrying and complaining over trivial things because it is so many other people out there who has it much worse than myself.

To see others people who have had horrible things happen to them yet they keep a positive attitude in spite of it really inspires me even the more to be thankful to God and appreciate how good I've got it, no matter what I'm going through.

This is a great blog, thanks for posting it.

Much success to you on your journey

JR was such an asset to "Dancing with the Stars". He is a winner in every way. I was so proud of him. When you think of a hero--he is it!
I have a gentleman in my apartment building that has no use of any of his limbs. He uses a special wheelchair that all he does is blow in it and it goes. He's an adorable man and lost all movement at 17 when he jumped into a shallow pool. He is also a hero--never a frown on his face and always something nice to say to everyone.
It does make you wonder how they can make it through life with their problems and we can't handle our eating problems. Very good blog--Thank you! Noel

Yes, you are so right. Focusing on the positives always helps motivate me to do better. So often I get caught up in the "I can'ts" that I forget all the blessings in my life.

Thanks for the timely reminder. We do have control over what we eat and how much we move.

A Positive Attitude is a big part of the battle!

To know that emoticon possitivity is necessary!

Thanks for sharing this, It is good to put our own struggles into the light and then look at others, who have much harder things to get through...and they get out there every day, and make it!

I remember watching JR dance on that episode of Dancing With the Stars. He is an inspiration to the world. I am not sure I would ever be that positive if I had been hurt and disfigured as he was...
He is an American actor ( and now a motivational speaker ) He was burned while serving in Iraq.
He is only around 30 or so years old and to me he has been through more then you or me would ever dream of for that age.

I can only say at this point that I am trying to be *positive* and that I will never give up trying!

I like your attitude. It's easy to get lost in the poor-mes, but you have chosen to look outside yourself. I will google Mr. Martinez as I have never heard of him. I don't watch TV. emoticon for sharing. emoticon

Nicely stated. It's amazing how once we put things in perspective we realize how very fortunate and blessed we are, as well as how we are so much more fortunate than others. You do have a positive attitude. I have been fortunate to be on the receiving end of it. You can do this! We Can Do This!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

JR Martinez is truly an inspiration. I know him from his role on All My Children. They were looking for a real life veteran of war, and he was chosen for the role. He is still a handsome man, beautiful on the inside as well. He has a fabulous attitude. You will definitely reach your goal. Good luck to you!
