Well, we are on vacation. Sort of, anyway LOL.
We are in a city about 4 hours away from home. We got here on Monday and are leaving on Saturday. Dad is here taking a course for work, and I had a facial therapist appointment on Tuesday. Because apparently there's no facial therapists where I live (!?!?!). (Note to self: become a facial therapist and make lots of $$$). Anyway, the facial therapist was very pleased with my progress at 4 months post-op. I have a significant amount of movement in the muscles on the right side of my face, ranging from 10-75%, but on average about 30%. She said that many people come to see her who are 6 months post-op (or post-event: other things like Bell's palsy can cause a very similar facial paralysis), and have no movement at all. Although I don't have scientific proof, and didn't ask her about this, I like to think that juicing and the large amount of nutrients I'm absorbing have helped the nerves heal quicker.
Besides the appointment, Mom and I have just been "hanging around". Mostly shopping, sitting in Starbucks. I bought a long, belted, short sleeve sweater that was on sale. And it was a medium. It's so AMAZING to be able to pick up a medium and know that most likely it will fit. I did try on a pair of size 15 skinny jeans, however, that didn't fit because my calves are too big ?!?!?! Um, Ok.
Yesterday we went to a bookstore and I picked up a copy of the Forks Over Knives Cookbook. I've heard lots of good reviews about it and it looks amazing! I can't wait to try out the recipes. I also bought a book by Joel Salatin, a farmer who raises organic, ethically treated chicken, cows, pigs, turkeys, and rabbits.
So, juicing. Well, as you probably guessed from my title, somethings up. I decided yesterday to break my fast today. For valid reasons. I am very hungry lately. I get exhausted doing normal things like shopping yesterday. I've gone 32 days without eating solid food, which is a long time. My pride and self-competitiveness wants to go 60 days. But I'm learning that my competitive nature is sometimes unhealthy. In this situation I need to listen more to my body and it's needs than to my mind. We did bring our juicer and tonnnnnns of produce-enough to juice for three people for several days. Now that all three of us are eating again, we've decided to make soup. Mom bought some canned no salt beans, an onion, and some no salt broth yesterday and we're making a simple veggie and bean soup today. Yum!! Especially in this cold snowy weather.
My first ever wheatgrass shot, with an OJ chaser. I found the wheatgrass suprisingly sweet and delicious. I didn't really even need the chaser. Yum!
An all-vegetable fresh juice I found at a place called Jugo Juice. Beets, carrots, celery, cucumber, and ginger.
So today is a new Day 1. It's Day 1 of my healthy, vegan, nutritarian lifestyle. Healthiness and yuminess abound! For breakfast, I enjoyed some fresh pineapple and a protein smoothie (banana, strawberries, pineapple, unsweetened almond milk, and vegan vanilla chai protein powder).
