Sandy has passed

This morning was the first ride since Friday. Saturday morning was spent preparing for Hurricane Sandy. Patching the garage roof, putting up all of the lawn furniture, cleaning gutters, and taking down our wind chimes. The rain had already showed up by the time I was done at 4:30 PM. The rest of Saturday, Sunday, and Monday was spent hunkered down in the house. There was plenty of wind and rain, but we fared ok. My heart goes out the the folks up north. It is going to take a long time for things to get back to normal for them.
We still had some rain and high winds on Tuesday, so I chose to drive to work. This morning it was a little chilly, 41 degrees with a 34 degree wind chill. However, it was a most beautiful ride. After being cooped up for so long, the freedom to roll was incredible. To top it off, the sun was rising just as I got to work. I had not seen the sun for a few days and I appreciated the confirmation that it was still there. I called my wife as soon as I parked the bike. It's part of our morning ritual. I give her a courtesy call that I made it safely to work and she continues to let me do the dark time commmute. I let her know the sun was coming up so she could enjoy it with her morning coffee.
Now, it is lunch time and my bike is calling me. Time to go get some sunshine.
