Day 2/60 juice fast...

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

I'll be honest. I crashed and burned today.

I made it about halfway and I was so tired I just had to eat something. So, I had a TBSP of peanut butter and thought, "I'll keep going, maybe I just need a little protein." It was not to be. I made it a day and a half, people!!!

The good news is that I am craving healthy food like you would not believe. All day I just wanted a monsterous salad with every vegetable I could find. So, if nothing else, I think even a day and a half is better than nothing if it gets you where you need to go. It has helped me to really think deeply about the things I put in my body and wanting them to be as unprocessed as possible.

Even though I am moving on from the juice fast, I still plan on making the commitment to only fruits, veggies, whole grains and legumes for the rest of the year. This will be much more doable through the holidays while still avoiding all those sweets.

My short term goal is to loose 15 lbs by the end of the year. Totally doable.

You are doing great! And you said it yourself-- the goal is really to eat healthier and grab the healthy options, not the ones that put on the weight and cause all the ill health. I've been doing raw vegan but even I have cheated. Yesterday I had some tahini (which I'm sure isn't "raw") in my zucchini hummus. But guess what? It was way better than eating 4 slices of pizza and a bag of french fries like I normally would. And my portion was modest and not out of control either. So keep it up! You're doing awesome and a little peanut butter never hurt anyone. Hey, have you ever tried replacing the peanut butter with almond butter or sunflower seed butter, etc? They're actually even better for you and, IMHO, better tasting.

It can be disappointing not to be able to get through the first 48 hours that many people find so difficult when you have to detox quickly. The goal was admirable, but be kinder to yourself and take baby steps. Recognize that you got more live nutrition in your body than you normally would and make this commitment an 'add to' diet. Just keep adding the fresh fruits and veggies on an empty stomach (commit to starting your day with a glass of juice) and your body will lead you to desire the good stuff and it will be come easier.

    You did great!
