I think I’ve finally found some manageable goals!! It’s been a long time coming but the two goals per day the nutritionist help me set up has really been working out. Its achievable and I actually feel like I’m making progress. I’ve been doing at least 15 minutes of activity each day and eating fruits and/or veggies at each meal. I’m tracking it to see progress and at the end of the week if I stick with it I’ll buy myself a little something. I’ve also been tracking calories on and off. I’ve been about 300 calories over my goal each day but the calories I’m burning during the activity seem to make up for it.
It’s so funny now that I’m incorporating fruits and veggies I’m struggling a bit. I’m always wondering if I’m eating enough of a veggie for it to be considered a serving. For instance I made squash and mushroom mac and cheese. There is quite a bit of squash and mushroom but there’s also a lot of noodles and cheese. I try to have another veggie with it too but I’m finding its difficult. I don’t want to eat the same stuff over and over again.
I went to the grocery store the other day to get fruit, which I normally don’t buy unless it’s in my basket and already picked out for me, and all they had were oranges, apples or bananas. None of which I wanted. I ended up getting bananas but I don’t really like those options. I might have to look into getting dried or canned fruit to switch things up. Veggies can be difficult too. I never know what they’ll have but broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, lettuce and potatoes are a good bet. I just don’t want to get stuck eating a protein with two sides of steamed veggies all the time. I mean, there could be worse things but I also want to find things are veggie packed and not so portioned out if that makes sense. Beef vegetable soup comes to mind.
I’ve been good in terms of eating something I want and eating fruit or veggies with it. For instance this morning at work we had a fundraiser and they had a lot of yummy breakfast items. I had a cup of oatmeal, a serving of egg and ham breakfast casserole and a banana and a half. Two days ago I had a craving for Arby’s so I got one beef sandwich and had it with squash soup. Something I’ve NEVER done before. It’s a good system I think. That Arby’s run normally would have been a lot different and it (almost) fit into my calories.
Getting in exercise has been going really good to. I just do it no matter what. Normally when I’m watching TV at night and it goes fast. The past two nights I’ve done 30 minutes. It’s, again, the consistency that’s exciting to me because it was so hard before. I’m up to 165 fitness minutes for the month which is a lot considering it’s more than I’ve done in the last 6 months. I would love to get to 250 before the end of the month so we’ll see.
I don’t have meals planned for the week so it get worried when I’m in that mode because I tend to overeat. I’ll have to find some stuff to make today and beef vegetable soup does sound yummy. I get a basket Saturday which is nice so I’ll have tons of stuff then. I don’t know what I’ll get yet which is exciting because I’ll have to plan meals around it. My Mom is also coming next week which I’m hoping means she can do some cooking while I’m at work. That would be a nice break if she doesn’t mind. Off to start planning…
