Fun race this weekend, but it sure lived up to it's name, lol. Wicked winds.
But nothing was going to stop the Devil Wearing Prada. Got to the race site at an hour before race started. Here's the finished costume, complete with sequin glasses and glitter running shoes.
Met up with SIL Dan, Sis and BFF Teresa, aren't we a silly looking bunch?
Heading to the starting line, it was very, very windy, ugghh, dreading the run. Off we went. DH snapped this pic as we ran by, way too many people. (Thanks DH for always being my biggest cheerleader)
It was hard to establish a good pace with all those people, weaving in and out, traffic jam at the first water stop, uggh, then ran 40 blocks into a 20 mph wind - the beginning of Hurricane Sandy, thank goodness the rain held out. Running into the wind was tough, couldn't find anyone to draft behind, lol, so I just kept running. Thought I was going to make my time goal, but dang it, I missed it by 2 minutes, I was so mad at myself, but hey, the conditions were certainly less than perfect, so I did my best. Finished 1:08:35, 274/614 in my age group, 4003/7264 overall.
The happy finishers, Sis, SIL Dan and I, glad to be out of the wind.
My BFF Teresa did the Monster Mile, way to go Teresa. The after party is usually held on the beach but thank goodness it was moved inside, we enjoyed chili in a bread bowl, yum and it was out of the wind.
Fun race, great family, great friends, and great party. It started to rain right after we left the party (and it's still raining). Then home for a nice long afternoon nap, snuggling with the kitties. Not the PR I hoped for, but still proud of my race efforts. Next stop, Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon, Nov. 11.
