St. Mary's 5K Chili Crusade
Sunday, October 28, 2012
So this was my 2nd 5K. My first 5K was when St. Mary's hosted their first Chili Crusade in 2010. They hold a Chili Cookoff on Saturday, and then have the 5K on Sunday afternoon, and it's their biggest fundraiser of the year. A bit of irony: I pulled my kids out of Catholic schools 3 years ago and sent them to public schools, and this fundraiser 5K is for families who otherwise can't afford to send their kids there. But it's a great run, and one of my biking friends is the race director, and I promised her I would do it. Besides, I don't let some stupid foot thing stand in the way of reaching my goals.
A note about my 7th grade daughter in this picture. She got her head shaved for the x-country team a couple weeks back. She should have run this race because she would've won her division! But I didn't have enough money to sign us both up, so she hung back and cheered for people.
After the race, there was chili in the school gym, of course. Good chili, but my 3rd grader didn't like hers, and I don't like to waste food, so I ate her chili too. I'm DONE until dinnertime now. I'm trying to get back on track after having a couple cookies yesterday and a couple pieces of Halloween candy on Friday night! Tomorrow will be a good day to be completely on track again because everyone is at school and I usually bring my lunch from home and make sure it's a good healthy balance of foods.
A word about my husband, who chose to stay home, clean the garage, and watch the Bears game from his cave, rather than come to a 5K and cheer for his wife. My feelings are really hurt. That is all. :(
This week will be pretty good for my routine. On Monday and Thursday I will do my ST, Tuesday and Friday I will swim, and Wednesday and Saturday I hope to run at least 3 miles each time. My foot was on fire when I finished the 5K today, and I iced it for a good 30 minutes afterward.
That's about all for now. I have my pj's on and my trig homework in front of me, and I'm not doing anything else for the rest of the day.
