Last weekend I went "home" to Michigan for my cousins wedding. It was such a blast to get to see everyone again. It was a very special wedding, yes all the weddings are special, but this is the first wedding my family has had since my grandmother passed away in Jan of 2010. Along with that, it is the first one that my great aunt, her twin, was unable to attend due to health issues as well.
My cousin (Stasia) definitely helped bring my grandma to the wedding. While we were going through her closet we found her old wedding dress. Stasia saw it and said she had to wear it for her wedding, she is the only one not married, and to be quite frank short enough to wear the dress without too much altering. It was a blue velvet dress, so quite unique in it's own right anyway. The wedding was beautiful and had a 50's theme with gem stones.
Since Stasia is on this journey as well the reception food consisted of baked chicken, sauteed green beans, a mix of baked potatoes and sweet potatoes and a tossed salad. It was yummy and helped the waist line :) The cake was delicious as well. She had a strawberry cake with white frosting & spice cake with cream cheese frosting..yum, yum. I love spice cake so I had to have a piece...especially since there were not munchy foods around, dinner was put away and I had been dancing for about an hour by the time the cake was cut. I savored every bite, it was sooooo yummy.
The dancing brings me to my title. We were about three hours into the dancing, let me tell you my family loves to dance, my cousin's daughter (12 yrs old) looked at me while we were doing the twist and asked "How are you not tired?" It shocked me at first because I always dance at weddings, but then I thought about it. I had been on the floor just about those whole three hours with many different groups of people because they had to leave to take breaks. Then I told her it was because I have become healthy, exercise daily, eat healthy and this (the dancing) was fun. A little later I began to wonder, how I still had so much energy and that 12 year old was completely worn out.
That is the scary part. Children should not get worn out before the adults, that in my opinion is a little backwards. I am definitely doing something good in this world sharing my knowledge and passion for helping children and adults learn to live healthy and fit lives together.
I also have realized that I have come a very long way on my journey. Even though there have been times lately where I feel like I am not accomplishing anything because my weight is not going down in my favor, I have still accomplished so much and am much, much, much healthier than I was just a few short years ago.
