On my soapbox!

Saturday, October 27, 2012

Well, I'm feeling the need to get on my soapbox! I may come off sounding like an idiot, but here goes! I have, as of this morning, just realized that Crystal Light (and other drink mixes like them) are making my bottle of water 10 calories and not 5 like I have been believing for quite a while now! Maybe I am crazy for thinking that one packet in a 16.9 oz. bottle was one serving! The nutrition info says 5 calories for half a packet (I honestly had never noticed this before) but we are to put the whole packet in a bottle of water! I have been thinking of my bottle of water as one serving (I know, I know, that's 2 cups and therefore 2 servings) but I try to drink 4-5 bottles a day and that's why I think of a bottle as a serving! It's a little misleading on the box (at least to me) to say 5 calories per serving and then show pictures of them adding it to a bottle of water! Maybe I am an idiot, I should have read the nutrition label better, I always do for my food! I'll be honest, I haven't been counting my drink mixes on my nutrition tracker! I guess I figured that 20-25 calories weren't going to make or break me, but now it has gone up to 40-50 calories a day. That's a string cheese or half an apple or banana! I will now start counting my drink mix, but with a heavy heart for that piece of string cheese I like at the end of the day but will now have to give up! Yes, I probably should stop adding these mixes, but they make water taste so good! Water alone makes me nauseous for some reason so I find myself not drinking what I should. Thanks for letting me rant! Have any of you been believing the same thing or is it just me!

Yep, I caught that one too about the packets being 2 serve. I use the CL Energy drink instead of coffee w/creamer in the mornings now. I like it better and less calories. I just don't like plain water either. I used to also drink a lot of gourmet coffees with lots of sugary stuff in them, loaded with calories. After cutting those out, the weight is coming down. emoticon

I noticed that a while back and was devastated. I don't drink enough water anyway so trying to drink it without anything seems impossible at this time.

You may want to search for other brands and options. I have a liquid flavor that says 0 calories (although I am sure it likely has some it is hopefully less than the 10 per bottle of the packets). With the liquid it is also easier to add less than trying to add half a packet.

Artificial sweeteners give me a huge headache, so I don't drink Crystal Light. But I do agree that labels/food packaging are often deceiving. My rant is not having information on genetically modified food listed somewhere on a nutrition label!

I don't use crystal lite regularly, but manufacturers are tricky! Maybe try it with half, at the beginning it may taste weak but you may get used to it. I add a splash or two of lemon to my water, I really like that. I know what you mean about plain water, drinking so much can be nauseating especially when you don't feel thirsty! Congrats on your weight loss, keep going!
