Had a Goal Fail...

Friday, October 26, 2012

I had my number one Goal Fail .....My goal was to lose as much weight as possible before 01/01/2014 cause in April 2014 had a Cruise Planned, The Cruise was a 7 day Western Caribbean Cruise. I got a letter from the Cruise advising me that the Vacation I chose was being cancelled and I would be refunded the money that was paid towards my deposit. This really through me for a loop. I gained 9 pounds after finding this out mentally, I had nothing to look forward too. I'm still struggling to find a new goal....but at least my physical being has repaired its self and I have lost the 9 pounds that were gained....I want to plan another Vacation, where looking good is a plus so I can so off all of my hard work.....Is this an unrealistic Goal...most likely....but at least its something to look forward too.... emoticon

Having something to look forward to and use as a milestone can be very motivating. In terms of a goal, I would argue that setting a specific weight by a specific day is not realistic. We can not control our weight in absolute terms. What we can do is control the factors that impact our weight - primarily nutrition, exercise, sleep and stress.

If we can figure out a "sweet spot" in each of those areas that support a healthy life, our weight will "right-size" unless there are other underlying health issues.

Making goals about how much and what we will eat, how much and what exercise we will do, how much sleep we will get and mitigating stress in our lives are goals that we can act on directly.

You've lost 9 lbs, so you know some things that work - focus on those and keep tweaking to discover even finer distinctions.

All the best on your journey to a healthier life

That's funny, DH and I were going to do a Western Carribean cruise this cmoing Feb, but decided to postpone until 2014.
I think it's a great goal to plan to look good for a vacation! Unfortunately on the last cruise we took I gained like 7 lbs. That was WITH daily exercise. YIKES! This time I know better and will enjoy but not go overboard. I want to look good AFTER the cruise too!
