Aqua Zumba and Achilles Tendonitis???

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

I had been wanting to blog about my first aqua zumba class last week, but have been kinda busy. I have a few minutes right now so I decided to write a quick blog. Aqua Zumba was...harder than I thought!!! It was fun but really hard to keep my balance, I'm not very coordinated though emoticon My gym just added this clas so I figured I would give it a shot. I do prefer just regular zumba but I will go to the aqua zumba a few more times before I totally decide if I want to stick with it or not. In other news, I have been having heel pain the past few days, so I did what anyone else would do and googled. Came up with Achilles tendonitis! Have you had this condition or know anyone who has? Tried and true remedies? All I can say is ouch! DH has also taken up a class at the gym it is a core/ab workout class he seems to like it so I'm happy for him! Getting ready for colder weather here:( it is supposed to snow tomorrow and Friday...ugh I don't do well in cold weather lol. I am also almost done putting together DS' Halloween costume it's coming along quite well, he has his school festival on Friday he is excited and I'm get to be a judge for the costume contest! Well Sparkpeeps that's all for now!! Have a fabulous day! emoticon

Any time I've strained one of my Achille's tendons the only thing that really helps is resting it as much as possible. of course ice and ibuprofen help as well, but try to stay off it to let the little tear heal. Hope it gets better ASAP! Oh and once it's healed do calf raises and stretching to help strengthen them so it's less likely to happen again. :)

If it is Achilles Tendonitis, RICE like crazy and stay off your feet as much as possible.

I had a mild case this summer/early fall and it knocked me out of commission for about three weeks. Even when I did resume running, I resumed slowly and carefully. This was not something I wanted to escalate!

The big lesson I learned from it was the importance of stretching. I now do my Achilles stretches religiously after every run!

Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon!

Is your heel pain centralized in the heel, and does it affect you most when you get up after a period of rest (say, first thing in the morning)? If so, it may not be Achilles tendonitis, it may be plantar fasciitis. Either way, if it keeps up, you may want to visit your doctor. I've been at war with plantar fasciitis for a while, and while there's some stretches I can do to help, it always hurts to stand first thing in the morning (and then gets better as the day progresses). :)

I did aqua Zumba a few months back. I liked it alright, but I think I'm just gonna stick with regular zumba. Too much water flayling about for me.
