Peanut Butter

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

I was demonstrating how to Explode the Moment (from Barry Lane) to make writing come alive for my students today and chose to write about eating peanut butter out of the jar. Wow, was that an eye opener!

Here's what I learned:

1. I'm not alone in my PB obsession (at least in the 12/13 yr old category) because over 1/2 of my students do the same thing.
2. After reading my model essay, my daughter thinks I'm way too obsessed with PB, and it is probably the reason I'm at a stalemate in my weight right now. (and I probably need PB counseling)
3. My PB is really 190 calories per serving, not 140 like I wrote in my paper. The 140 calories are the fat calories - yikes!

That sure was an enlightening assignment in more ways than I ever imagined.

Maybe I should write about those caramel/chocolate/pecan praline bars my mother-in-law brought over on Sunday next...

I too, love peanut butter, and can go days/weeks without as much as a spoonful.. but then the urge to have just a taste gets seeps into my mind and I HAVE to have peanut butter.... it's strange how those cravings work!!!

Interesting lesson for your students!!!

I just tried PB2 which also has only 1 gram of fat. It is powdered and you mix 2 TBSP of the powder with a TBSP of water to make a serving. It comes in regular and mixed with chocolate. I love it.

Even though I have not given up on losing weight, this plateau has been getting me down and I've been indulging today and yesterday. Let's do better tomorrow.
