Quilt Guild Challenges

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Each year at quilt guild we set a personnel challenge. This year I set my goal to make a quilt using my fathers, father-in-law and brothers neck ties. This is what I came up with:

A second challenge we were each given a package of seeds which we then used the seed package to inspire us to make some kind of project. I had purple cone flowers (which happens to be one of my favorite flowers):

We also do a ufo challenge (unfinished fabric object). I had 19 items on my list and I think I finished 11 of them. Here are few of them.

Ribbons of Hope:

Disappearing Four Square

Martha Washington Star

Stack and Spin

Half Square Triangles

Terri's Cake

What an inspiration for me!! I love to sew, but in my small apartment there just is not a place to leave my machine out. I have to put it on the dining room table.

However, it is just my son and I and I know he would not care if I just left it there. He teases me that I have it covered with my "stuff" anyway. My computer is on one side and my Bible studies on the other -

Thank you for sharing - I found you page thru Martha-Ann.

P.S. Love the tie quilt - my Dad had lots of ties - wish I had some to make a quilt in his memory!!

    Beautiful work.
I've just started back at my Church kneeler group after a hand operation, I'd forgotten how much I love to sew.

You've certainly been busy! What a wonderful feeling to have accomplished such a variety of quilt. Love the Cone Flowers!

When my dad died last year, my sister tried to give me his ties....I just couldn't see myself being patient enough to take them apart and make something with them. But your quilt looks great!
