Annoyed today

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

I am so annoyed today. I had a 7:45 appointment this morning for bloodwork and it did not go well. My veins are always difficult but this morning they poked me three times and still did not draw any blood.

I told the tech that normally it is necessary to draw blood using the back of my left hand using a very small needle or a butterfly. That is the most reliable place. So what does he do? He insists on using the bend of my elbow. Sure enough, no blood. So he calls in a woman to do the deed. I pointed out the places where I have been successfully poked before. What did she do? Poked an area near my wrist and blew the vein. No blood. Then she proceeds to poke me in the bend of my elbow AGAIN! No blood.

For the last three years, I have been having bloodwork done at an average of monthly, sometimes more often, and I pretty well know which veins work and which don't. I HATE NEEDLES and I hate when they not only poke but then start wiggling the needle around trying to find a vein. Now, I have a knot and bruise near my wrist and bruises in the bend of my elbow. . I also greatly dislike people who do not listen.

Now, I have to decide where I am going to go to get blood drawn before I see the doctor next Friday, fast again and get poked again. Oh well, maybe the fasting will make me lose a couple more pounds.

I do hate that as well. They seem to think they know anatomy better than anyone else. I may not be a darn doctor, but I know how my body responds better than any doctor does!

So next time you tell them that no one poles you until they listen to you. Make them make eye contact. If they don't do it the first time... scream like it's killing you and then maybe someone will listen.
